About me

Kai Morlock

I am Kai, and sailing is my passion. It started with a taster course; now I am drawn back to the water every year: the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, the IJsselmeer.

What fascinates me about it? The calm when the engine is off. The feeling of moving with nothing but the wind. The fun when the boat picks up speed and the crew pulls off a manoeuvre together. And the evenings at anchor when nobody has to be anywhere.

I sail privately, not professionally. I love to keep learning, so step by step I have earned the licences shown below. They give me the confidence to take others along too.

My dream is a boat of my own, so I can head out more often and more spontaneously.

Why licences matter

  • Safety on boardIf you know navigation, weather and emergency procedures, you make better decisions at sea.
  • Legal requirementMany waters require a certificate of competence, Lake Constance for example its own licence.
  • ResponsibilityThe skipper is responsible for crew, boat and other water users.
  • CharteringCharter companies usually require suitable certificates of competence and check the requirements before handing over the yacht.
  • Know-howSeamanship, technology and navigation are learned thoroughly in training.
  • CommunityCourses and trips bring you together with other sailors.
